Description

This painting of Mary is oil on canvas, with gold leaf embellishment. It depicts Mary as Mediatrix, as the intercessor who shares Jesus with us on our journey towards Heaven. Mount Carmel is in the background, with Elijah's cave suggested in the shadows. The dove represents the Holy Spirit, coming down to earth. The steps of the pathway are narrowed by impediments, both human-made and of nature. The archway is the remnant of the ancient Carmelite monastery, Stella Maris, in Israel.
